Roofing Tiles
A generic term for all types of roof tiles which serve a special purpose. These tiles include: sleeve tiles *tonemarugawara 利根丸瓦; tiles extending beyond the bargeboards at right angle to the sleeve tiles, i.e. hanging tiles kakegawara 掛瓦; gap-filling tiles *mendogawara 面戸瓦; ogre-faced tiles *onigawara 鬼瓦; bird-peech tiles *toribusuma 鳥衾; coping tiles *fusumagawara 伏間瓦; stacked ridge tiles *noshigawara 熨斗瓦; and tiles that cover the joints made by sleeve tile ends *tomebutagawara 留蓋瓦. The broad, concave tiles *hiragawara 平瓦 and the semi-circular, convex cover tiles *marugawara 丸瓦 that form the basis for many tiled roofs are not included as yakugawara.
